THE SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PEOPLE & TREES IS AT THE HEART OF KFT'S WORK
SOME OF THE THINGS OUR COMMUNITY VALUES ABOUT OUR WOODS.... "it is an irreplaceable environmental and community resource", "that you can walk and explore them", "the aesthetic value as well as the habitats for wildlife", "the trees", "the woods provide a valuable link with the past and the future", "their diversity", "without trees we would be without half/most of our species of both flora & fauna" (extracts from Our Future Woodland community questionnaire 2016)
Community celebration 2009
The Community Community involvement is integral to what we do. The population of Knoydart is around 110. At the time of the community buyout only 60 people lived here. Inverie is home to the majority of folk and there are settlements around the coast.
KFT Board KFT directors are elected by the community members of KFT. The current directors are: Andy, Lewis, Corinna & Jim who are all members of our community, and Megan who is an experienced forest manager who is a co-opted director. The board meet every 2 months.
KFT Directors & staff
Staff & Volunteers KFT employ 3 full-time workers - forester - Grant, assistant forester - Josh and manager - Lorna, and 1 part-time forestry worker - Danny. We also take on several local subcontractors for specific pieces of work. Volunteers also help us with work around the woods.
Knoydart Foundation To restore the woodland habitat we work hand in hand with the Knoydart Foundation, managing over 1,000 hectares of woodland on their behalf and creating new woodlands via a woodland management agreement. Through the Foundation the community own and manage 17,200 acres of the Knoydart peninsula.
