WE NEED YOUR HELP... By making a “Plant KnoydarTrees” donation you will be helping us to plant and look after new woodlands on community owned land in Knoydart as part of our long term vision to link up the woodland habitat across the peninsula from Loch Nevis to Loch Hourn. Your donation will not only have a positive impact on our wee peninsula but will also help to address global climate change.
Over the next 5 years we are establishing 4 new woodlands on community owned land - Mary Ann's, Ben's, Abhainn Bheag and Coire Sgreucha - a total of 193 hectares and over a quarter of a million trees. Our policy is to plant more trees than usually required to give the woodland the best chance of thriving - so we want to plant an extra 62,000 trees on top of this. Your donation will help us do this. Each £15 donation helps to cover the cost of buying, planting and looking after one tree until it is strong enough to fend for itself in its challenging growing environment here on the North West coast of Scotland...and there’s a lot more to this than plonking a tree in the ground! There’s building a fence to stop the trees getting eaten by deer, sheep or goats, preparing the ground by creating mounds to help with drainage and weeds, ordering the right trees for the soil and getting them here, planting the trees, putting vole guards on the tastiest ones so the voles don’t munch them, weeding areas that are thick with bracken so the wee trees get enough light, looking after the fence and taking it down again once the woodland is resilient enough to cope with whatever Knoydart throws at it! As a thank you for your donation you will receive a "Plant KnoydarTrees" e-certificate and an annual update (with lots of photos) of how the new woodlands are getting on. If your donation is a gift we will include a personalised message for the lucky recipient. |
